5 Q&As with Michael Schwartz - Magnasense Board Member

Michael, you joined the Magnasense board of directors earlier this year, tell us about your background?

I bring over 16 years of experience in the dental industry in the United States, having served as CEO of three different Dental Support Organizations (DSOs) during this time. My journey has allowed me to deeply understand the unique challenges and opportunities within the dental field, and I am excited to apply this experience to help drive positive change at Magnasense.

What made you interested in supporting Magnasense?

Early in my dental career, I came across the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health, an organization working to bridge the gap between dental and medical professionals to highlight the vital connection between oral health and overall wellness. When I first spoke with Marco, I was inspired by our shared vision of expanding the role of dentists in identifying health issues earlier for patients. Magnasense represents a groundbreaking opportunity to empower dental professionals and positively impact patient outcomes by leveraging early detection.

You have great experience in steering company transformations and driving operational improvements, especially in the dental market where you helped Specialty Dental Brands, based in Tennessee, US, scale from two to more than 250 locations in four years and increased annual revenue to more than $500 million. What is driving growth in this market?

The growth in the dental market has been driven by the increasing complexity of the healthcare landscape in the United States, which can be challenging for patients and providers alike. Many independent dental providers weren’t equipped to manage key business functions like HR, finance, legal, and marketing, and that’s where DSOs have made a significant impact—by offering essential business services that allow dentists to focus entirely on delivering outstanding patient care. Additionally, the rising cost of higher education, with many dental students graduating with significant debt, makes joining a DSO a more viable and attractive option. DSOs provide a clear path for new graduates and a strong transition strategy for dentists looking to retire or diversify their investments, driving substantial growth in the market.

What kind of potential do you see in Magnasense?

Magnasense has immense potential to revolutionize healthcare. There is a growing shift towards patient-centered care, with individuals wanting more control over their health. Magnasense’s approach of enabling convenient, saliva-based testing at home is a game changer, making diagnostics easier and more accessible. Additionally, equipping other healthcare providers, such as dentists, with these diagnostic tools will dramatically improve early detection, enabling timely intervention and better health outcomes for patients. This shift represents a truly exciting future for healthcare.

What does Magnasense need to do to best succeed?

In the short term, it is crucial to successfully complete our work with RADx, as it will lay the foundation for further growth. Beyond that, establishing strong partnerships across different markets will be key to demonstrating the significant benefits of our technology to both providers and patients. By showcasing the real-world impact of Magnasense’s solutions, we can drive widespread adoption and truly make a difference in healthcare.
